Financial Data

This page is a work-in-progress. The information contained below may be incomplete and may change as we gather our receipts. Our subscription management software and distribution method has changed twice since our founding in 2020, but we’ve done our best to ensure these figures are accurate. Any inaccuracies will be in the costs field, as we might have missed a few expenses.

Sales data reflects issues sales made from release to today, June 9th, 2023, and doesn’t include subscription revenue.
Donation income reflects total payout for each relevant quarter.

Issue 3.1

This year, we joined Patreon and Ko-fi to give those who couldn’t commit to an annual subscription and those who wanted to enjoy community benefits an easy way to help support us! Tiers, rewards, and content are identical on both platforms, but we definitely prefer Ko-fi for its great feature set and far lower rates.

We also adjusted our acquisition budget, reducing the number of original stories we publish and soliciting curated reprints instead. This helps offset the cost to produce our issues while increasing the overall page count.

WOAH. What happened to our print subscribers?

CHURN HAPPENED.

We had to switch subscription management systems, moving from Memberful (a paid solution) to a free, in-house system. Anytime you make a change like this (which shuts auto-renewal off), you’re going to lose subscribers on renewal. A good number of these dropped subscribers were also attained as a result of our Kickstarter campaign for Mixtape: 1986. We’re sending out an email to everyone, letting them know their subscription has expired and telling them how to renew it, so hopefully, we’ll see a crazy bump by next quarter!
